What do moths do in the night?

The Kawahara lab is collaborating with a sensory ecology lab, Barber Lab at Boise State University, to understand the evolution of ultrasound production in moths. For this research I am assisting with fieldwork, moth identifications, recording moth calls, and identifying the structures associated with the production of ultrasound.

  Evolution of defensive adaptations

I am in the early stages of my PhD and am formulating ideas for a research project. I am interested in applying the results of phylogenetic studies from my masters to the study of predator defense adaptations in the Erebinae and other erebid subfamilies. I am also interested in expanding in to the study of the behavior of Erebinae moths, about which very little is known.
